The consultations, in the Vowel app
Three consultations, the way a naming consultant works
A naming consultant meets you, listens, comes back with a plan and helps you decide. Vowel does the same in three spoken sessions with Aurora: she prepares each one, follows an agenda and leaves you written notes.

The first interview: what the name has to do
About twelve minutes, just you and Aurora: what the name has to do for you, who it might honor, what is ruled out, where your child will grow up.
As a couple, each of you holds your own interview on your own iPhone, where the other can’t hear. At the end you see the summary Aurora would share and decide whether it goes to your partner.

The review of your Brief
Once you have a few names in common, you sit down together with Aurora and go through your Brief: what she heard from each of you, the names you share, what deserves a second look.
What you agree on aloud goes into your shared family file. A name one of you rules out leaves the list for both of you.

The decision
With two finalists or more, each of you first seals a private preference on your own phone, with a sentence about why. Your partner only sees that it is sealed.
In the decision session Aurora opens both, weighs your days with each name, and at the end you can seal the name together, there and then.

Notes after every session
After each session Aurora writes notes: what was said, what changed, what comes next. The notes of the sessions you hold together go to both of you; the notes of your own first interview stay on your phone.
When each session opens
- The first interview: whenever you like, on your own.
- The review of your Brief: together, once you have three names in common.
- The decision: together, once you have two finalists and both preferences are sealed.
What they cost
The Consultant is The One plus the three consultations: US $34.99, once. Already have The One? Add the consultations for US $24.99. No subscription.
Good to know
- 60 minutes in all per family, across the three sessions. Pausing stops the clock.
- Aurora is an AI and her voice is synthetic. During a session your voice goes to an AI provider so she can answer, only while you talk.
- Sessions you hold together take place on one iPhone: the one of the parent who sent the invitation.
- Can’t talk where you are? You can type during a session.

Questions
Is Aurora a real person?
No. Aurora is an AI and her voice is synthetic. The app tells you so before you start.
How long are the sessions?
The first interview takes about 12 minutes. You have 60 minutes in all per family across the three sessions, and pausing stops the clock.
Do we both need to be there?
Not for the first interview: each of you holds your own. The review and the decision are held together, on one iPhone.
Can I do this on my own?
Yes. If you are choosing alone, every session is between you and Aurora, and you can invite a second voice, a parent or a sibling, whenever you want.
I already bought The One. Can I add the consultations?
Yes. Add them for US $24.99.
